Cover Crops
-Cover crops are one of the most cost-effective and environmentally sustainable ways to reduce nutrient runoff, control soil erosion and protect water quality in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. The past several years, the Maryland Department of Agriculture (MDA) has provided Maryland farmers with millions of dollars in funding to plant cover crops on their fields in the fall. The MDA has offered a Traditional Cover Crop Program, which does not allow for harvest and the Commodity Cover Crop Program, allowing farmers the opportunity to harvest these cover crops.
Pasture Seeding and Renovation
-Interseeding and no-till pasture renovation
Interseeding and no-till pasture renovation offer opportunities for improving pasture productivity. Production of low yielding pastures can be doubled or tripled with the introduction of more productive grass or legume species.
